“Watching old movies is like spending an evening with those people next door. They bore us, and we wouldn't go out of our way to see them; we drop in on them because they're so close. If it took some effort to see old movies, we might try to find out which were the good ones, and if people saw only the good ones maybe they would still respect old movies. As it is, people sit and watch movies that audiences walked out on thirty years ago. Like Lot's wife, we are tempted to take another look, attracted not by evil but by something that seems much more shameful -- our own innocence.”
-Pauline Kael

"How far are you going?"
"About thirty years."

"I can sing while I read, I am singing and reading both."

I realized that there is a major element that is missing from my impressions of movies: the music. Music is often a very important part of a film and as I looked back on my previous posts I realized I had omitted this very important part of them.

To rectify this, I plan on introducing a new category of post called "Intermezzo". For now this will be a follow up to my written impressions of films highlighting a section of music or movie song that is indelibly tied to the film just reviewed. For now I'll have to play catch up with the previous three films already impressed upon. Once I get a regular schedule on when I plan on posting my impressions, I will place this category in the middle of such posts (hence the term "intermezzo"). Until then, I'll post a video or audio clip relating to each movie already written about. First off, "Time Bandits":

Intermezzo: Time Bandits

George Harrison of  The Beatles was a producer of the film and also wrote this excellent song for it which was played during the ending credits. Here's a clever video creating a montage of memorable moments from the film along with said song.
