Here is where I put up a tiny disclaimer after the fact. In 1981, I probably saw only four or five movies in the theaters. Hey, I was ten years old with a single mom with limited funds, so I was lucky my movie going experience was as much as it is.
Fortunately this was the start of the '80's which included the advent of the commercial sale of the VCR, the introduction of the home video rental business and the expansion of cable television. Luckily for me, I had friends who had all of these services from which I could pilfer from and feed my interest in movies. The result is that most of the 1981 movies I remembered were seen in those presentations and in the limited screen format that they provided.
Still a lot of movies from that year had a profound effect on me when I eventually saw then later on VHS or television. So much so, that I've gone back to see many of those films in their original screen format to try to recreate the cinematic experience as closely as possible.
However, to the bring this post back to its original topic, even though I didn't see many movies theatrically in 1981, the films from that year eventually had a strong impact on me. The purpose of this blog is to highlight films from my past and perhaps include a few films from that period that I have never seen to see how well they hold up to my older eyes and tastes. I'd like to provide a mix of nostalgia along with a fresh take on the movies of yore and enjoy the experience of doing so for myself and for readers of this blog. I'm looking forward to re-watching the past.
