“Watching old movies is like spending an evening with those people next door. They bore us, and we wouldn't go out of our way to see them; we drop in on them because they're so close. If it took some effort to see old movies, we might try to find out which were the good ones, and if people saw only the good ones maybe they would still respect old movies. As it is, people sit and watch movies that audiences walked out on thirty years ago. Like Lot's wife, we are tempted to take another look, attracted not by evil but by something that seems much more shameful -- our own innocence.”
-Pauline Kael

"How far are you going?"
"About thirty years."

"If you're afraid of getting a rotten apple, don't go to the barrel. Get it off the tree."

So after some quick research and my personal preference, I've decided to choose these 17 films to begin with.

1. Raiders of the Lost Ark
2. Reds
3. Chariots of Fire
4. Atlantic City
5. On Golden Pond
6. Escape From New York
7. Das Boot
8. The Road Warrior
9. An American Werewolf in London
10. My Dinner With Andre
11. Excalibur
12. Time Bandits
13. Gallipoli
14. American Pop
15. Arthur
16. Dragonslayer'
17. Clash of the Titans

The first 5 movies listed are the Academy Award Best Picture nominees of 1981. The last three are movies I remembered watching in a movie theater. As for the rest they are films that I have considered to have been great films or in the case of one (Atlantic City), a Best Picture nominee I haven't seen yet. There are a few more that I hope to include but for now my focus will be to complete this list before the year is out. Wish me luck.
